Cape Dress
One of the most common style of plain dresses for women is the cape dress.
It is a full-skirted classical dress, with an additional layer of fabric, loosely covering the upper body in front and back: The Cape.
It retains the upper part of a peasant pinafore, used to be worn in past times.
The cape is attached to the dress at the waist and neckline and is made of the same fabric as the dress, which makes it perceived as an integral part of the dress.
A full cape reaches from the back waist over the shoulders to the front waist and is supposed to cover the shape of the bust and hiding straps of the underwear.
Its loose covering de-emphasizes the bust shape for additional modesty.
A cape dress can be worn by anyone, regardless of religious affiliation, because it is only worn for modesty, which is always appreciated.
The cape of this dress is a plain cape, which means it is just a straight piece of fabric, without any tailored fitting or decorations. The sides gap open, not shaping around the bust, to de-emphasizes its shape.

Cape Styles
There are several common styles of plain capes.
Examples of the different styles are shown in the pictures below.
Cape Width
A cape can be narrow at the shoulder or wider to cover it.Cape Shape
A cape can be straight or slanted, depending on its width at the waist. Gentle gathering on the front cape gives a bit looser, modest fit over the bust.Cape Length
A slightly longer cape will cover the underline of the bust.In the cape dress gallery you can see the different styles of capes.
Back Cape Style
The style, especially of the back cape, is influenced by the dress openings. A dress featuring a back zipper has a divided look, even though the zipper is hidden. A fully uninterrupted look of the cape is possible by using a side zipper together with a shoulder zipper.
