Dress Openings
All plain modest dresses, beside the Slip On Dress, have a high neckline and a fitted waist. Therefore they need to have openings at the neck and waist.
There are different options for the openings.
Back Zipper
A long zipper is sewn at the back of the bodice. It goes down
to the skirt and will serve as opening for both, neck and waist.
The back cape pieces of a cape dress will be sewn to the bodice along the zipper and resulting in a separated look.
Side Zipper
A zipper is sewn into one side seam of the bodice from the arm pit to the skirt.
It is easier to reach than a back zipper.
Because this zipper is sewn into an existing side seam it removes the need for a separate back pieces of the bodice.
Using a side zipper and shoulder zipper on a cape dress allows a loose and uninterrupted back cape, providing a neater look.
Back cape and bodice can be sewn as a single piece of fabric, reducing the total number of seams.
